Reusing your questions with starters

A starter is a go-to question you save to re-run in one click. Rather than rephrasing "What recurring blockers come up for this client?" or "How is this engagement progressing?" every time, you ask it once, keep it, and Memo has it ready for you next time.

Understanding starters

Starters are your recurring questions, ready to use. They appear as chips (small clickable pills) in the My starters row, right above the input field of Memory Chat. Clicking a starter pre-fills your question in the field: you send it as is, or adjust it first.

Starters are filed by mode. Each Memory Chat mode — Client, Practice, Pilot, Group, Company — has its own list: the row shows only the starters of the active mode, and you can save up to 20 per mode.

A good starter is generic: remove the client's name and one-off context so it stays reusable from one session to the next.

Saving a question from an answer

The quickest way to create a starter is to start from a question you've just asked:

  1. On one of Memo's answers, open the message actions.
  2. Click Save as starter. The Save as starter box opens.
  3. Tidy up the proposed text (remove the client's name, one-off context) so it stays reusable — the starter will be filed under the conversation's mode.
  4. Click Save starter. A Starter saved message confirms the addition.

Managing your starters

All management happens in the Manage my starters panel.

  1. In the My starters row (below the input field), click Manage my starters. The panel opens on the right.
  2. At the top, choose the Mode whose starters you want to manage — the panel opens on the conversation's active mode.
  3. The list shows that mode's starters, in the order they appear as chips.

Creating a starter

  1. At the bottom of the panel, type your question in the New starter field. A starter's text is limited to 280 characters; a counter below the field (x/280) tracks your input and turns orange as you near the limit.
  2. Click Add (or Ctrl/⌘ Enter). The starter joins that mode's list.

A counter at the bottom of the panel shows how many starters are already saved for this mode (e.g. 12/20). At 20 starters, adding is blocked: the message Limit of 20 starters reached for this mode appears — delete one to make room. If you enter a starter that already exists, An identical starter already exists shows.

Editing a starter

  1. Click the starter's text in the list — it becomes editable.
  2. Adjust the text, then confirm with Ctrl/⌘ Enter (or by clicking outside the field). Esc cancels the edit.

Reordering starters

The order of starters in the panel is the order of the chips on screen. To change it, drag a starter by its handle (to the left of the row), or use the Move up / Move down arrows.

Deleting a starter

Click the Delete the starter icon (trash can) on the row. A Starter deleted message appears with an Undo action if you change your mind.

If a mode has no starter yet, the panel shows No starters for this mode yet — add one to get started.

💡 Tip: create one starter per recurring use — one to prepare a session in Client mode, one to spot recurrences in Practice mode, one for your activity check-in in Pilot mode. It pays off every time you open the chat.
