Asking the AI better questions

The quality of an answer depends as much on the question as on the memory available. A few simple habits help you get precise, directly actionable answers, in each of the three modes.

Good habits

  • Pick the right mode first — this is the setting with the most impact. Client mode for one person, Practice mode for a cross-cutting question, Pilot mode for a count. A good question in the wrong mode gives an off-target answer.
  • Be specific — "What goals did Sophie set over the last three sessions?" gives a much better answer than "Tell me about Sophie".
  • One question at a time — break complex requests into successive questions rather than a single catch-all query.
  • Scope your request — a period, a theme or a specific client helps Memo focus ("over the past 6 months", "on self-confidence").
  • Build on your good questions — as soon as a phrasing works well, save it in My starters (below the input field) to re-run it in one click next time, in the same mode.

Examples by mode

Client mode — focused on one person, sources pointing to their sessions:

  • "Where does Sophie stand on her relationship to authority?"
  • "What has changed over the past 6 months?"
  • "Prepare a progress checkpoint for me before the next session."

Practice mode — cross-cutting, for patterns and recurrences:

  • "What recurring blockers do my clients in career transition share?"
  • "What patterns recur among clients who drop off early?"

Pilot mode — volumes and counters, numeric answers:

  • "How many sessions do I have this week?"
  • "How many clients haven't had a session in 2 months?"
  • "What's my average weekly session load?"

In Pilot mode, Memo answers in numeric text and shows its own visuals (breakdown-by-channel donut, weekly load); however, don't ask it to generate an export or a custom chart — those formats aren't available there.

💡 Tip: stuck for ideas? Start a new conversation: the Explore your coaching memory home screen offers an example question for each mode, which you can pick up and adjust. Your saved starters stay accessible below the input field.
