# Taking session notes

Every session has a space where you can jot down your own notes — before, during or after the appointment. These raw notes are kept exactly as you type them and stay with you throughout the session.

# Understanding session notes

The **My notes** block, subtitled **Before, during or after the session. Saved automatically.**, is a free-form field: you write whatever you want, with no AI transformation. There's **no Save button** — your notes are saved automatically as you type.

| These notes are private. They serve your coach's memory; they aren't sent to the client.

# Entering your notes

1. On the session page, find the **My notes** block.
2. Write straight into the field (the prompt reads **Type your session notes…**).
3. Don't look for a Save button: as soon as you stop typing, an indicator moves from **Saving…** to **Saved** (then **Saved at {time}**), confirming everything is stored.

Saving is **deferred**: it fires a fraction of a second after your last keystroke. It also fires when you leave the field or close the page — no pending note is lost.

# When notes switch to read-only

As long as no summary exists, your notes stay **editable**. Once a summary is generated for the session, the block becomes **Coach notes** (subtitled **Your notes taken before, during or after the session, folded into the summary.**) and appears **read-only**, below the summary. Your notes aren't lost: they're kept and tied to the summary.

|| Once the block is read-only, you no longer edit these notes here. To add an observation to the session, use the **Enrich** tab; for a general note about the client, use the **Notes** tab on their profile.

# Dictating your notes by voice

You can dictate instead of typing. The **Dictate a note** button (microphone icon) opens the **Voice dictation** panel on the right — the same format as session capture — then inserts the transcribed text **at the cursor position**, without erasing what you'd already written. Handy for capturing an impression right after the session.

1. Click **Dictate a note**. The **Voice dictation** panel (subtitled **Your voice, transcribed into text in the note.**) reminds you of the essentials: speak calmly in a quiet place, no summary or memory is generated, and the length is capped (**Max length: 10 min per note** — beyond that, recording stops automatically).
2. Click **Start recording**. The first time, your browser asks permission to access the microphone: accept it. The timer runs; you can hit **Pause** then **Resume** at any point. Keep the screen on and stay on the page while dictating.
3. Click **Finish**. Transcription starts (**Transcribing…**): a few seconds for a short note, up to a few minutes for a long dictation — an estimate is displayed. The text is then inserted into the note and a **Text inserted** message confirms the addition, which you can undo with **Undo insertion**.

| As you approach the 10 minutes, an **Auto-stops in {time}** countdown warns you; at the limit, the dictation stops and is still transcribed. Need more? Chain several dictations within the same note: each one is inserted after the previous.

| If you close the panel mid-dictation, recording pauses and a **Stop dictation?** confirmation lets you choose: **Keep dictating**, **Finish and transcribe**, or **Discard** (the recording is then lost).

|| On some browsers pausing isn't supported: a **Pause isn't available in this browser — recording continues** message tells you so. If the microphone is blocked, the panel guides you step by step to re-enable the permission (padlock icon in the address bar › Microphone › Allow, then **Retry**).

|| To record the **full exchange** with your client (not just your own voice), dictation isn't what you need: use **session capture** — mic recording or importing a recording. See Capturing a session.

| 💡 **Tip:** a few words dictated on the spot, right after the session, are often worth more than a note written later "when things calm down" — but forgotten in the meantime.
