# Reading and checking citations

| Feature available from the **Professional** plan (unlocked during the free trial).

Every Memory Chat answer draws on **sources** from your memory. Citations let you check where the information comes from and trace back to the full context behind a statement.

# Understanding citations

Memo doesn't guess: it synthesizes real elements of your memory (sessions, summaries, notes). Citations are the markers that link each statement to the session it comes from. They exist in **Client mode** and **Practice mode**, but their form differs by mode:

- **Client mode** — citations point to the client's **specific sessions**, which you can open to find the context. The **Cited sources** panel lists the sessions used.
- **Practice mode** — answers are sourced too, but the **citations are anonymized** (labeled "Anonymized citations") since you're reasoning across several clients at once.
- **Pilot mode** — answers are **numeric and without citations**: Pilot counts your activity, it doesn't draw on session content.

# Following a citation

1. In a **Client mode** or **Practice mode** answer, spot the session references in the text ("session 2", "session 14"…).
2. Click a citation to open the matching session and read the source passage.
3. If needed, open the **Cited sources** panel to see every session the answer used, or spot them on the **Cited sessions** timeline shown below the answer.

This lets you **check** the answer by tracing back to the source, and **recover the full context** behind a synthesized statement.

## The markers around the answer

Memo also shows a few markers that situate its analysis:

- **Client snapshot** *(Client mode)* — a pinned panel that recaps the client analyzed: how long you've been coaching them, their session count, their last session and their themes. A link opens their file.
- **Based on N sessions** — a note below the answer indicating how many sessions (and, in Practice mode, how many clients) Memo actually took into account.
- **Cited sessions** — the timeline of sessions the answer sourced, each one openable in one click.

| 💡 **Tip:** get in the habit of checking citations for sensitive information. The AI synthesizes, but the source session is what counts.
